From the early inception of pharmacy benefit management companies (PBMs) to current industry news of creative pricing and administration of drug plans, there is a lot to be discussed about this somewhat opaque area of benefits.  In this presentation, we will discuss the history of PBMs, how they operate within the entire prescription benefit ecosystem alongside employer plans, their employees that use the plan, pharmacies, group purchasing organizations and the manufacturers themselves - all toward the end of educating plan sponsors to protect themselves from fiduciary liability and take specific actions  to control this 25% (on average) cost component of their medical plan.
